What You Need To Know….. to find the perfect window décor.
Thank you for choosing United Textiles for your window décor purchase! We have a wide variety of styles and colors of curtain panels—modern, traditional, casual, formal and all styles in between. Our experienced, knowledgeable associates are happy to help you decorate all of the windows in your home—including that "problem" window that you’ve never quite been happy with! Before you come into our showroom, there are a few things you need to know.
To ensure a pleasant, problem-free window decorating experience:
Take actual measurements of your window. Architectural styles change through the decades, and so do the size of residential windows. For the window height, you should measure from the top of the window’s trim to the bottom of the trim. If the window has a window sill, you should decide whether you want the curtains to come all the way to the floor, or stop at the sill. Then measure from the outside of the window’s side trim to get a width. The height is important for determining the length of your curtains, but the width is equally important for determining how many panels you need to get the fullness you desire.
Our curtains do come in standard sizes. The most common length is 84", but we also have styles available in 95", 63", 45" and a select style available in 108". The most common width for a single panel is 54" wide, but some styles will vary.
If you are also purchasing curtain rods, you will need to adjust the WIDTH measurement—allow a MINIMUM of two inches from the trim for simple, flat, white curtain rods, or a MINIMUM of 3" to 5" for decorative curtain rods with finials. (Finials vary in length.) If the window is very close to a corner, a doorway, built-in shelves, etc., you should measure exactly how much space you have in which to mount a curtain rod. If you like, take a snapshot of the window and bring it with you, along with your measurements and color sample. Our decorators are always happy to help you refresh your current style, or create a completely new look.
Bring a color sample with you. Throw pillows, pillow shams, wall décor, paint chips—anything with the color(s) you want to coordinate with your windows. Different types of lighting (incandescent, fluorescent, etc.) can change the look of fabric drastically. Bringing a color sample with you ensures that you won’t get your curtains home and discover that they are exactly the WRONG shade.
If you are trying to duplicate or coordinate with curtains you already own, feel free to bring the curtain (or valance, or tie-back) with you. Just check in at the front counter to avoid confusion at check out.
Following these simple tips can help our staff make your experience pleasant and guarantee your satisfaction with your new window décor. Happy Shopping!
